Are you going to Åre with your roof tent, motorhome or van this summer? We at Taktältarna recommend some places in or near Åre – both regular campsites and free camping – that are suitable for camping with roof tents, vans and motorhomes.
Åre in the summer is fantastic and a perfect starting point to experience the mountain world in its full summer glory! Here we list some good places where you can stay with your roof tent, motorhome or camper van.

Campsites near Åre village
Åre Camping

Åre camping is located just under ten kilometers from Åre with a beautiful view of Åreskutan. Next to the campsite there are bike trails and the pilgrimage trail, perfect for hiking and trail running. Åresjön is a short forest walk away.
Fall asleep right next to the Indalsälven river to the roar of the mighty Ristafallet waterfall just a stone's throw away. Nice campsite about 20 minutes from Åre with plenty of space and a small café as well as shower/toilet.
Vällistegårdens camping
A small family campsite by the Indalsälven river with Åreskutan in the background. Among the birches at Vällistegården you choose the spot that suits you! Free wi-fi.
Parking for motorhomes in Åre
If you want to park your motorhome in central Åre, Åre municipality recommends the large parking lot next to Åre old church (Kyrklägdan). These are only parking spaces and not prepared motorhome stops and therefore lack services such as electricity and water.
- Between May 1 and November 30, overnight parking is allowed.
- During the day, parking fees apply according to the current rate.
Free camping in Åre for roof tenters, vans and motorhomes
Are you going to free camp? Remember to show consideration by NEVER leaving trash behind and leave the place as you found it! Do NOT relieve yourself in parking lots but take the opportunity when you are inside the village. If we all help with this, we will continue to be able to use the places.
Ullådalen parking
Camp (almost) up on the mountain! Ullådalen is Åre's most accessible outdoor area. Here are two large parking lots at the foot of Åreskutan with a fantastic view of Mullfjället. In addition, one of the parking lots has a simple toilet.
Parking below Copperhill
The design hotel Copperhill is located at the end of the road in the Björnen area with magnificent views of Åreskutan and Åredalen.
Parking at Tott
The old historic hotel Tott has been empty for a few years now. This means that their parking lot is usually empty as well. Very good location for hiking around and up to Totthummeln and within walking distance down to Åre village, which you also have a breathtaking view of from the parking lot.
