What is it like to camp with a roof tent for the first time? The Eriksson-Gullström family, consisting of Joseph, Emma, and their daughter Billie, 2.5 years old, set out in Summer Sweden equipped with a roof tent and a video camera to document both their experiences and journey. Before your first roof tent trip, many questions and thoughts usually arise; will we find somewhere to park, will we manage to set up the roof tent, and (if you are parents of small children) will the kids even be able to sleep in the tent??
Stockholmers Joseph Eriksson and Emma Gullström love being outdoors and discovered roof tents in the spring of 2021. As new car owners and parents of small children eager for adventure, they were attracted by the freedom and simplicity of roof tents.
The first roof tent trip went to the areas around Motala
Their first trip with a roof tent went to the areas around Motala and Vättern where Joseph's parents live – safely in case something went wrong and in this way they could also gather good tips from the family for places to park plus they had
Before the trip, they also looked a lot on Google Maps to find places that seemed good for roof tents, and read our beginner's guide for roof tents.
The big hope before they set off was that their daughter Billie would sleep well in the tent so they could hang outside with a glass of wine and watch the sunsets. In the film above you can see how that went.
